Micah has been looking forward to field day all year long! It was supposed to be held on June 2nd, but it was rained out, so it was rescheduled for June 4th. All of the 5th and 6th graders get together and compete against each other in track & field events. Unfortunately, since it was rescheduled, North was unable to attend. Still, it seemed like there were a million kids there.
Micah got 1st place in the mile. He came within 20 seconds of beating the school record. He has run the mile several times trying to beat the school record and didn't quite do it. If he keeps running, though, he's bound to be super fast by high school. His relay team placed first, and he was 4th place in both the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. The girls and I camped out at the high school all day, watching the events. I came prepared for cold weather, which we had at first, but when the sun came out we got a little bit cooked. Look at poor little Lizzie's sunburn. I should have come prepared for sun too! I did have an umbrella, but she didn't stay under it for long. There was too much else to do! I got pretty burnt too.
Rebecca and Kaykay had a fun time playing. They pretended to be pregnant and deliver their multiple babies without an ounce of pain -- they would just say "wah, wah!" and pull the baby out. If only it were really like that...
Here is Micah running the mile. He stayed in the lead most of the last 3 laps, but Ellis passed him at one point and he had to gain his lead back.
He and Ellis walked the track and cooled down after their race.
Crazy girls
3 crazy girls. Lizzie was sooooo tired, but I couldn't get her to take a nap. There was too much to see.
After a full day at the high school, the girls packed up and headed home.
Here is a video of the end of Micah's mile race. He redeemed himself from Hersey Track, which was the day before. Since he has an October birthday, he had to compete against junior high kids instead of the kids in his grade, and one of them was about twice his height (and won the races by a long shot). So he didn't do as well as he'd hoped in Hershey Track. He did get 2nd place in the long jump, but there were only 2 that competed. :)
